PS...I Glove You!

OK, so maybe the Manhandled gloves are just a bit rustic for your taste. Or maybe your man needs a more girly pair of gloves!

Either way....I have the solution! The pretty Pauper's Glove!

This pattern is simple and straight forward. If you're an all out beginner and can knit say...a face cloth....you can knit these!

Enjoy!!!!

Finished size:  small/medium (medium) (*large* and I mean Seinfeld large)

Yarn: Approx. 100 yards of aran weight yarn.  For this pair I used 1 ball of Noro Kureyon

Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles

Notions:

·       2 stitch markers
·      1 tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:  5 stitches = 1” in stocking stitch

So let’s get crackalackin’!

The Cuff…

·      Cast on 33 (36) (*39*) stitches using a picot cast on.  To do a picot cast on, you are going to cast on 5 stitches, bind off 2 stitches then slip the remaining stitch from your right needle to your left needle. If you’ve never done a picot cast on there is a great video here.

·      Divide your stitches evenly onto your double-pointed needles and join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches.

·      For the next 4-and-a-half inches do a knit 2 purl 1 rib. Or longer if you want a longer cuff.

·      Next 5 rounds: knit

·      At this point you may want to place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.  I find I don’t need to but this is YOUR project, not mine :0)

The Thumb Gusset… (Isn’t gusset a GREAT word?!)

·      Round one of thumb gusset: K6, pm, m1f, pm. Now knit to the end of the round.

·      Round two and every other even numbered round in the gusset (in other words every other round) knit until the end of the round.

·      Round three and every other odd numbered round (in other words every other round) knit to the marker and: sm, m1f, knit up to and including the last stitch before the next marker, m1f, sm, knit to the end of the round.  You are going to do this until you have 11 (11) (*13*) stitches between the markers.

·      Next round knit.

·      Next round: knit up to the marker and remove it.  Put all of the stitches that are between the markers on that waste yarn I was talking about.  Join the rest of the stitches snuggly together and finish the round.

·      You now should have a thumb hole….YAY!

The Body…

·      For the next five rounds knit. If you want the body of your glove to be longer just knit more rows. Keep track of how many rows you have done so that your gloves are both the same size.

·      Next round purl.

·      Next round knit.

·      Repeat the previous two rounds until you have 4 purled rounds each with a knit round in between.  This is a garter stitch.

·      After the 4th purled row, bind off loosely.

The Thumb…

·      Transfer the 11 (11) (*13*) stitches that you have on waste yarn onto your dpn’s.

·      Now if you look closely in the ‘v’ shape where the thumb gusset attaches to the body of the glove you will see 2 stitches that look like they can be picked up. Pick up the stitches directly below them and distribute on your dpn's.   You now have 13 (13) (*15*) stitches on your dpn’s.

·      Knit the next 4 (4) (*5*) rounds.

·      Knit the next two rounds in garter stitch. Purl one round, knit one round, purl one round and then…bind off loosely.

·      Weave in all of your ends and….Viola….you have yourself a pretty pair of fingerless gloves!

Some terms used in this here pattern:

·      K = knit
·      P = purl
·      Pm = place marker
·      Sm = slip marker
·      M1f = make one front.  Great video here!
·      DPN’s = double-pointed-needles
